RENAISSANCE STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Program Overview

The Renaissance Studies Certificate Program is designed to enable students pursuing doctorates in any CUNY Ph.D. program in any aspect of the Renaissance/Early Modern period (c. 1350-1700) to expand their studies in an interdisciplinary way. The program's main goals are to provide students with the opportunity 1) to acquire exploratory methods of cross-disciplinary research, that will enhance both their scholarship and teaching; 2) to study with Renaissance/Early Modern faculty outside their home discipline; and 3) to acquire a Certificate in Renaissance Studies as a credential that will enrich their doctorate.

Participating CUNY Ph.D. programs include Art History, Classics, Comparative Literature,English, French, Germanic Languages and Literatures, Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures, History, Music, Philosophy, and Theatre.

Requirements

Requirements for the certificate consist of two core courses (Introduction to Renaissance Studies; Research Techniques in Renaissance Studies), two elective courses outside the home discipline (may include special topics courses in the Certificate Program),a language requirement, and a dissertation on a Renaissance/Early Modern topic.
