The GC Poetics Group is a DSC-chartered organization and as such it's open to GC students from any discipline.
The GC Poetics Group is an interdisciplinary collective at the CUNY Graduate Center made up of students and faculty from all departments who are interested in poetry and poetics. Our purpose is to provide a context in which a variety of poetry events and discussions can easily happen, and to foster an intellectual and social community dedicated to creative writing and scholarship, and to imaginative amalgams of both. This group is a way of taking advantage of the diverse talents and interests of the Graduate Center’s many poets and scholars of poetry, and also a way of connecting the institution to other poetry communities in New York City and elsewhere. The activities of the group include happenings open to the public: poetry readings, panel discussions, interviews, performances, and interdisciplinary occurrences. We also have a student poetry/prose reading twice a year at the English Department Revels.
The group is open to all Graduate Center students and faculty, and we also welcome participation from other CUNY faculty and students, as well as from anyone who is interested in poetry at the Graduate Center and in New York. We maintain a listserv of approximately 100 members that features group news and announcements about poetry events (to join, just write to the co-chairs). You can find info about coming events on our website. (http://opencuny.org/poetics/)
