THE DEIRO ARCHIVE

Thanks to the generosity of Ms. Sandra Cattani, who recently donated a treasure trove of materials relating to the lives and careers Pietro Deiro and Pietro Deiro, Jr., what was formerly known as the Guido Deiro Archive has now expanded and will be called THE DEIRO ARCHIVE, and will be split into two parts:  the Guido Deiro Section and the Pietro Deiro and Pietro Deiro, Jr., Section.  While the catalogue of the Guido Deiro Section is already available online, that devoted to Pietro and Pietro Jr. Deiro will be posted as soon as it is completed.

In all, The Deiro Archive contains a rich store of documents pertaining to the lives and careers of the two musicians who played a seminal role in introducing the piano accordion in the USA during the early twentieth century.

The Archive, which is also valuable for its information about the history of vaudeville, is open to interested scholars upon appointment. The materials are housed in the Mina Rees Library at the City University of New York Graduate Center.

N.B.:  Please note that The Free-Reed Journal ceased publication with the appearance of volume 4 in 2001.

In terms of the Center's publishing activity, it has been superceded by the Papers of the International Concertina Association, published jointly with the International Concertina Association as of Fall 2004 (for information about the Papers, click on the appropriate link).
