It is with deep sorrow that the Ph.D. Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures announces the death of Dr. Xoán González-Millán and his wife, Esperanza. Both died tragically in a car accident on Friday, November 22, 2002.

In addition to being a valued faculty member of the Doctoral Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures at the Graduate Center, Dr. González-Millán also served as Director of the Doctoral Program's Galician Institute.

A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, December 19, 2002 in the Martin Segal Theatre at 6:00 p.m. Among the speakers were Distinguished Professors Lía Schwartz, Executive Officer of the Doctoral Program, and Isaías Lerner, Professor Marithelma Costa and Mr. John Estrada, a student of the Program.
