Dr. Lolo is Associate Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Literatures at Kingsborough Community College where he has been teaching since 1994, bringing to the college his experience in the City College of CUNY and Saint John’s University. He is the Spanish Program Coordinator of the Foreign Language Department, the Department’s liaison with the College Library, and the Department’s webmaster.

As a professor, Dr. Lolo teaches Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced courses. Among the latest ones are SPA 4: Reading in Hispanic Literatures, and SPA 18: Proper Models of Spanish Grammar and Conversation for Native Speakers. He is also Faculty Advisor of the Spanish-American Club and the Sigma Delta Mu Honor Society. He has been a member of different college-wide committees such as the Awards Committee and the Committee for Admission and Academic Standards. More recently, he was designated one of the graduates' favorite teachers for the year of 2003.

As a writer, Dr. Lolo has received, among other honors, the 1991 Golden Letters Award conferred by the Iberian Studies Institute and the University of Miami. He is the author of several books, some of them published by university presses. His published books include Las trampas del tiempo y sus memorias (1991), Mar de espuma,Martí y la Literatura Infantil (1995), Un huésped no invitado. La voz tangencial del indio en la literatura hispana (2001), and Después del rayo y del fuego, Acerca de José Martí (2003), books that have elicited praiseworthy reviews in newspapers and academic journals in the United Sates and abroad. He has also published many articles in refereed academic journals, magazines, and newspapers. He is considered a leading scholar on José Martí (1853-1895).

Dr. Lolo is an active member of several national and international academic and literary institutions. In this capacity he has been elected by his peers to serve in different posts. He was recently elected Member of the National Membership Committee of The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) for a two-year term from 2002 to 2004. Before that, he was elected to integrate the Executive Council of the National Board of Directors of the Pan-American Cultural Circle (Círculo de Cultura Panamericano) for a two-year term, from 2000 to 2001. He was also elected to serve a three-year term from 1998 to 2001 in the International Committee of the Children’s Literature Association (ChLA). He recently received the Silver Medal and Certificate Award 2004 conferred to foreign scholars by the Société Académique d’Éducation et d’Encouragement, a well-known French institution.
