![]() Herminio A. Martínez Ph.D. 1984
Dr. Herminio Martinez is currently Professor of Middle and High School Education and Executive Director of the Bronx Institute at Lehman College. The primary mission of The Bronx Institute is to foster academic excellence in schools throughout the Bronx. During his tenure The Bronx Institute has evolved into a multimillion dollar operation serving over four thousand Bronx students and families. Prior to joining Lehman College, Professor Martinez served as Associate Provost, Associate Dean, and Department Chair at Baruch College of the City University of New York. Previously Dr. Martinez had served as Associate Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Professor Martinez is an experienced teacher, administrator, and academician. Professor. Martinez has served on the Board of Directors of numerous community and public service organizations. These include: The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the Goldman Sachs New Venture Fund, the Private Industry Council of the City of New York, the U.S. Senate Bi-Partisan Committee on Hispanic Affairs, the New York Urban Coalition, the Audubon Partnership for Economic Development, the Women in Prison Association, United Way, and the American Jewish Committee. His areas of concentration include second language acquisition and learning, cross cultural education, and management. He has directed numerous research, professional development, and technical assistance programs. He has worked extensively with the State Education Departments, School Districts, colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations in the Northeast, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Professor Martinez has extensive experience as consultant in the fields of second language acquisition and learning, management, and public policy. He has served as a consultant to the Far West Laboratory for Educational Research and Development, the Huron Institute, Graduate School of Education, Harvard University, the Center for the Study of Evaluation, Graduate School of Education, University of California (UCLA), the Educational Testing Service, the College Board, the University of Texans at Austin, and the Ana G. Mendez University System in San Juan Puerto Rico. Professor Martinez has received awards and recognition from numerous organizations for his work. These include: The New York State Assembly (Educator of the Year 2006); the Cuban National Planning Council, the National Council of La Raza. |
