Description:
The Ph.D. Program in Educational Psychology at the Graduate School of the City University of New York is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the level of Associate or Full Professor to begin Fall 2010. Duties involve mentoring Ph.D. -level students, conducting research, and teaching two doctoral-level courses per semester, including core courses in educational psychology and advanced courses focused on specialized areas of research involving cognition, learning, development and/or instruction.
Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Educational Psychology or Psychology and will be an enthusiastic researcher who follows the scientific method and applies quantitative statistical tools to conduct empirical research in the areas of cognition, learning, development and/or instruction. Specific topics of research may include: the role of self-regulation in learning; teaching of mathematics or science; second language acquisition and instruction; the use technology as a tool for learning; and adolescent development and learning. The candidate must have a record of significant research published in peer-reviewed journals and an established program of grant-supported research; further he/she must have the potential to be a strong leader and must be an excellent teacher. The successful candidate will be currently grant active and must be committed to continued grant writing.
