Description:

The Student Psychological Counselor assists in the full range of clinical, administrative, training and outreach activities associated with the Wellness Center/Psychological Counseling & Adult Development (PCAD) Center, while functioning as a primary provider of direct clinical services as a senior member of the Center’s professional staff. PCAD provides evaluation, consultation, time limited counseling/psychotherapy, as well as academic support services (workshops and consultations and programs of development) to the 4,900 member doctoral student body at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. PCAD is also a training site for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows.

General Duties:


    • Provides student counseling services as a member of a team.
    • Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students.
    • Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations.
    • Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services.
    • Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops.
    • Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center’s effectiveness.
    • Provides individual and group consultation regarding graduate student progress and dissertation counseling.
    • Participates in clinical supervision of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees.
    • Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs OR Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling)
• Knowledge and experience in time-limited therapy
• Six years’ professional experience is required for all candidates

Salary Range: $71,073 - $85,356

FLSA Status: Exempt
