The Underground Railroad Experience

The Underground Railroad Experience  was created through a partnership with The Institute for Research on the African Diaspora, the Bronx Council for the Arts, and Ember Media, Inc. and with the support of a Underground Railroad Cultural and Educational Programs grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The site is a virtual meta-entity that serves as a portal and nexus of a multitude of resources related to the history of the Underground Railroad.  Exhibitions, curricula, stories, images of original documents and artifacts, past and current research, directories of existing routes and places, and other resources are accessible in one place on the Internet.  The history of the Underground Railroad can unfold online in ways that would not be otherwise possible in physical space or time, and provide interactive access to sites and routes that no longer exist physically. The Web site is  a dynamic audience development and outreach tool incorporating experimental educational formats as well as a tool to facilitate the real-time capture and dissemination of evolving information and research.
