Malva E. Filer, born in Argentina, holds a B. A. from the School of Philosophy and Literature of the National University of Buenos Aires and a Ph. D. from Columbia University. She is a Professor and Deputy Chair at the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of Brooklyn College, and a faculty member of the Ph. D. Program in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures at the Graduate Center, CUNY, since 1988.
Prof. Filer's research and publications focus on the Spanish American prose fiction, essay, literary movements and criticism from the Nineteen Sixties to the present. She has written books on Julio Cortázar and on Antonio Di Benedetto. She co-authored, with Professor. Raquel Chang-Rodríguez, Voces de Hispanoamérica. Antología Literaria. Boston: Heinle & Heinle, 1988; 2nd Edition, 1996; 3rd Edition, Thomson & Heinle, 2004. Her other publications include essays in the following volumes: The Final Island.
