Building your own page in the Linguistics program website

Most GC computers are installed with DreamWeaver, a powerful and user-friendly web-editing program. Even without such a professional program, you can still make your own webpage with a simple text editor such as Notepad (shipped with any version of Windows) and Textedit (Mac OSX). Also, there are a variety of freeware/shareware that you may find useful to develop your webpage.

Texteditor: Notepad2 (Windows; freeware)
Texteditor: BBedit (Mac classic & OSX; shareware)
Texteditor: TextWrangler (Mac OSX; freeware)

Web Template (which looks similar to the GC linguistics webpage): template (select "save as" by right-clicking on the link)

The Graduate Center provides each student with a 200M webspace where you can host your page through the GC Web File Service (WFS) (Note: The GC doesn't allow students to access their webspace via FTP). Your webpage will be available to everyone when you uploaded your html documents into a directory called "WWW". The URL to your page will be https://wfs.gc.cuny.edu/YOURID/www/index.html (where YOURID should be replaced with your ID and index.htm should be replaced with the filename). You might have to modify the directry permission (by clicking on the "share" icon and check the "read" box for "public") to make your page avaiable to the network outside of the GC.
