The Data
At the core of LIS are two databases of person- and household-level micro-data: the Luxembourg Income Study Database, and the Luxembourg Wealth Study Database. (Access to the data is free but requires registering as a user.)
Luxembourg Income Study Database (LIS) micro-data are ideally suited for studying economic and social policies and their effects on outcomes including poverty, income inequality, employment status, wage patterns, gender inequality, family formation, child well-being, health status, immigration, political behavior and public opinion. The newer Luxembourg Wealth Study Database (LWS) can be used to examine, for example, inter- and intra-country variability in household net worth, portfolio compositions, wealth distributions, and the interplay between income and asset holding. While begun as a project on mostly high-income countries, LIS is expanding its reach through the Luxembourg Middle Income Countries Study (LMICS) project, adding datasets from middle-income countries.
