The Leon Levy Center for Biography

The Leon Levy Center for Biography at the Graduate Center aims to identify, support and celebrate excellence and innovation in biography. Envisioned as a hub for writers, scholars, students and readers of the genre, the Leon Levy Center for Biography seeks to build connections between independent and university-affiliated biographers across the disciplines.

The Center offers paid residences to working biographers and CUNY dissertation students. Through an annual conference, the Leon Levy Biography Lecture, workshops, forums, and public presentations, the Center attempts to raise the profile of biography within the academy and cultivate lively interdisciplinary discussion about biography in our time. Established with the support of a generous gift from the Leon Levy Foundation, the Center is currently under the leadership of distinguished biographer, Brenda Wineapple and Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. Professor of History, David Nasaw.
