International/World Theatre

From its beginning, the Center has embraced dramatic literature and performance from the Americas and around the globe, and has established a unique international profile, recognizing that theatre, in its many forms, provides opportunities for people to learn and communicate about varieties of art and culture. Its world theatre programs bring contemporary theatre to the fore, while at the same time acknowledging the traditions of the past. Through play readings, performances, and discussions, the Center enables the New York theatre community and the theatre communities of the world to travel to one another's shores aesthetically and intellectually. The Center has hosted some of the most creative new and unconventional international companies that contemporary theatre and performance can offer. Jan Fabre from Belgium, Romeo Castellucci from Italy, the Ku Na’uka Theatre Company from Japan, René Pollesch from Germany, Rodrigo García from Argentina/Spain, and many more.
