IMPORTANT UPDATE:

DATE CHANGE

Straight from the 2009 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in Utah, join East Africa theatre artists Odile Gakire Katese (Rwanda), Flora Théfaine (choreographer from Togo) and Alif Naaba (composer from Burkina Faso) for an evening at the Segal Center. The event will feature a concert performance of NGWINO UBEHO (Come and Be Alive) directed by American director Rebecca Taichman and discussion with members of Sundance East Africa including Philip Himberg (Producing Artistic Director, Sundance Institute Theatre Program), Christopher Hibma (Associate Director, Sundance Institute Theatre Program) and Roberta Levitow (Sundance East Africa Associate Artist) and others.

Sundance Institute Theatre Program, well known for its developmental work with U.S. playwrights at their annual Theatre Lab, has created a multi-year program supporting the work of theatre artists in East Africa, as well as an exchange program between Sundance Institute Theatre Labs alumni and East African writers, directors and performers. The program reflects Sundance’s values: accessibility, mentorship, professionalism, advancement of the individual artistic voice, and rigorous artistic standards. Sundance recognizes that the specific cultural, social, political and artistic realities of East African life (unique to each country as well as to the continent) should be recognized and honored in both the design and the implementation of Sundance East Africa.
