Announcements: Examinations

Language Examination
: The Fall language examinations will be Wednesday, September 23, 2009 and Thursday, December 3 , 2009 beginning at 10 am. The Spring language examinations will be Wednesday, February 17, 2010 and Thursday, April 29, 2010 beginning at 10 am. Students should sign up well in advance (at least one week to ten days).  The exams will be administered by Professors Anson-Cartwright and Saloman. First Examination Part A: Part A of the First Examination will be given in the Fall on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 and in the Spring on Friday, January 22, 2010 10am-1pm. This exam is required of all Ph.D. and DMA-Composition students who entered the program without a master's degree in their area of specialization and should be taken at or before the 30-credit mark and must be passed by the 45-credit mark. Students who plan to take the exam should have signed up for it six weeks before the exam date.(You can contact Peg Rivers to sign up).  Guidelines for first examination

Musicianship Exam
for Theory Students: (Formerly Part C of the First Examination) will be given in the Fall on Saturday September 26, 2009 and  in the Spring on Saturday, February 27, 2010, 10am. Students should sign up for a time slot no later than 3 weeks before the exam date.  (You can contact Peg Rivers to sign up). This examination is required of all theory/analysis students and must be taken if necessary each semester until it is passed. Professors Rothstein and Professors Gagné  will administer the exam.Guidelines for Musicianship Examination

Second Examination CompositionThe written examination in the Fall will be on Wednesday and Thursday, August 19 and 20, 2009. The orals will be Saturday September 12, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before May 15, 2009 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Olan and Professor Kramer. The written examination in the Spring will be on Wednesday and Thursday, January 20 and 21, 2010. The orals will be Saturday February 6, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before December 1, 2009 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Olan and Professor Kramer. For the orals students must indicate their chosen composer at the time they sign up. Second Examination Ethnomusicology:  The written examination in the Fall will be on Monday and Tuesday, August 17 and 18, 2009 The orals will be scheduled later. Students must sign up for the exam before May 15, 2009 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Blum and Professor Kramer. The Spring written examination will be on Thursday and Friday, January 14 and 152010. Students must sign up for the exam before December 1, 2009 by e-mailing Peg Rivers with copies to Professor Atlas and Professor Kramer.  The names of the three required pieces will be available three weeks before the exam date; if you let Peg Rivers know ahead of time she will e-mail the names of the pieces to you that morning. Second Examination - DMA Performance: The Fall written examination will be on Friday, November 20, 2009; the orals will be Friday, December 4, 2009. Students must sign up for the exam before October 15, 2009 by e-mailing Jackie Martelle (amartelle@gc.cuny.edu) with a copy to  Professor Carey (ncarey@gc.cuny.edu). The Spring written examination will be on Friday, April 30, 2010; the orals will be Friday, May 14, 2010. Students must sign up for the exam before March 15, 2010 by e-mailing Jackie Martelle (amartelle@gc.cuny.edu) with a copy to Professor Carey (ncarey@gc.cuny.edu).
