A documentary of interest to New Yorkers:
"Taxi-vala/Autobiography" — A documentary film.
Directed by Vivek Renjen Bald, "Taxi-vala" (1994) is an experimental documentary which explores complex issues within New York's growing South Asian communities. The work examines the interaction between a second-generation bi-racial Indian-American (the videomaker), and a group of recent immigrants from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who drive taxicabs, twelve hours a day, on New York City's streets. The experience of immigration, its pain as well as its contradictions, is conveyed with intelligence and political wit.
