Project 1000 is a national program created to assist
underrepresented students applying to graduate school. Students
may apply to up to seven of the over 70 participating Project
1000 institutions by using one application. Participation is
FREE OF CHARGE to individual students.
Student Eligibility - 1) U.S. citizens or permanent residents
of Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban American or other
Latin American ethnic heritage (regardless of address); OR
2) African American or Native American (including U.S. Pacific
Islander) students who are either residents of or are currently
attending a university in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico,
Utah, Western Texas (El Paso and the Tigua Indian Reservation)
and the United States Virgin Islands.
The Graduate Center participates in Project 1000 through the
Office of Educational Opportunity and Diversity Programs.
If you wish to apply to colleges with the assistance of Project
1000, you must fill out their application form. The Office
of Educational Opportunity and Diversity Programs and The Graduate
Center Office of Admissions Do Not have applications
for Project 1000.

If you are applying to colleges through Project 1000 AND you
are applying to The Graduate Center CUNY, do the following:
Application Forms
Fill out an application form for The Graduate Center CUNY.
Request the application form and materials from either
Project 1000 or The Graduate Center's Office of Admissions.
(Project 1000's office also has application forms for The
Graduate Center.). NOTE: You will be filling out TWO application
forms--one for Project 1000 and one for The Graduate Center
CUNY. The Office of Admissions does not have application
forms for Project 1000. You must contact Project 1000 at
the address given above.
Application Fees
You do not have to submit the application fee with your application.
If you are accepted by a Ph.D. program, then you will pay
the application fee when you register for classes and pay
your tuition fees.
Supporting Documents
The Graduate Center will accept the letters of recommendation
and personal statement that you submit with your Project
1000 application.
Transcripts
During the application process The Graduate Center will rely
on copies of the transcripts submitted with your Project
1000 application. If you are accepted into a Ph.D. program,
you will have to provide to The Graduate Center official
transcripts from all of the schools you have attended.
