Program Evaluation and Accreditation
In accordance with the New York State Regents Doctoral Evaluation Project,
all doctoral programs in New York State are expected to undergo periodic
evaluation. Starting in 1994, a modified 10-year cycle of Periodic
Statewide Doctoral Program Reviews began. Contact the Director of Institutional Research and
Program Evaluation for information (212 817-7286).
In May 1994, CUNY adopted University-wide guidelines for academic program
review. Following those guidelines, The Graduate Center instituted a series
of internal self-studies of all programs, patterned on the New York State
reviews. Experts will make site visits and study self-evaluations
produced by the doctoral programs. See the schedule
(in PDF format) for the current ten-year cycle.
Some programs, such as Clinical Psychology, are also evaluated or accredited
by other licensing agencies.
The Graduate School and University Center is accredited
by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, which requires a self-evaluation
and site visit about every ten years (most recently in March 2000).
Copies of the 2000 Middle
States self-study and the MSA report are available in the Mina Rees
Library.
In June 2005 The Graduate Center presented a Periodic Review Report (PRR)
to the Middle States Association updating responses to the recommendations of the 2000 Middle States self-study
and evaluation team report.
