Temporary GC Faculty

Adjunct Faculty (Salaried)

Occasionally, a program may invite a faculty member from a non-CUNY institution to teach one course, usually for a single semester.  This is a part-time position with salary based on the "Adjunct" schedule in the PSC-CUNY contract.  Authorization to invite an adjunct professor must be obtained in the preceding semester from the Provost and is subject to the availability of funds.

Visiting Faculty (Salaried)

Occasionally, a program may invite a faculty member from a non-CUNY institution to teach for either a single semester or an academic year.  This is usually a full-time position with salary based on the appropriate professorial schedule in the PSC-CUNY contract.  Authorization to invite a Visiting Professor must be obtained from the Provost and is subject to the availability of a funded line.  A letter of appointment is sent to the visiting faculty member by the Provost.  If a visa is required, a worksheet for completing Form IAP-66 must be filled out well in advance of the scholar's visit so that a J-1 visa may be requested under the Exchange Visitors Program.  See the Office of Human Resources for specifics.  OHR will arrange an orientation meeting to discuss benefits and distribute policy material to the visitor.

Visiting Research Scholars
(Exchange Visitors Program (Nonsalaried))

Faculty or researchers from the United States or from other countries may apply to participate in a program for a semester or an academic year.  If the Executive Officer approves, authorization must be obtained from the Provost.  In all cases, such visitors must be self-supporting (and show verification of that support), must have health and other insurance (and show verification of the minimum amount required), and must be accommodated within the program's existing office space.  If a visa is required, the applicant must fill out a worksheet for completing Form IAP-66 so that a J-1 visa may be requested. The U.S. Information Agency requires visiting scholars not salaried by the GC to verify their level of support during their visit.  The visa request for a Visiting Research Scholar under the Exchange Visitors Program is processed in the Office of Human Resources.  Directors of centers and institutes may request authorization for Visiting Research Scholars from the Provost
