The Third Wave Foundation and the Schott Foundation will host a one day symposium to examine the barriers and success factors for girls and young women of color in the public school system. The symposium features some of the city's and nation's leading thinkers on issues related to girls and young women of color and education including:

- Fatima Goss Graves, National Women's Law Center
- Joanne Smith, Girls for Gender Equity
- Elizabeth Diaz, Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN)
- Celina Su, Brooklyn College
