The Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, a chair once held by Sir Isaac Newton, Professor Hawking's achievements include ground-breaking research supporting the theory that the universe, and time itself, began with a "Big Bang" about 15 billion years ago. He will discuss, in layman's terms, deep questions about time, the universe, and the human quest for the discovery.

Professor Hawking is the best-selling author of A Brief History of Time, translated into 33 languages and selling nine million copies. In addition to being a gifted writer Professor Hawking shares his views of the fundamental questions of physics and the universe through public lectures and television appearances. He was part of the "Millennium Evenings at the White House," a series of gatherings featuring scholars whose ideas help honor the past and imagine the future. In spite of having ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, Professor Hawking continues to make significant contributions to the scientific body of knowledge. --------
