This seminar will focus on recent research in Autism Spectrum Disorders(ASD). We will read and discuss the following topics: (1) The definition and diagnosis of ASD, (2) The neurobiology of ASD, (3) Language abilities and deficits, (4) Cognitive abilities and deficits, (5) Issues and approaches to intervention, and overlap with other childhood languages disorders. Students will be required to critically review two journal articles, prepare and original research proposal including a literature review, a methods section, and proposed data analysis. They will also be responsible for selecting readings, giving a power point presentation, and leading the discussion for one class session.
