Governance Structure
The Executive Committee in Theatre shall be composed of
(a)
the Executive Officer
(b)
the Deputy Executive Officer
(c)
five other faculty members elected by the
Program faculty as a whole and serving
renewable three-year terms, and
(d)
the President and First Vice-President of
the Doctoral Theatre Students Association.
If there are any central appointments, at least one of
the five faculty members must be a central appointee. If there are six or
more members of the faculty from any one senior college, the faculty member
from that college with the highest number of votes will be elected to the
committee, even if other candidates not at that college receive more votes.
All will be voting members except that the students will not vote in
decisions concerning individual faculty members or individual students.
There will be no proxy votes.
The Deputy Executive Officer will
be appointed from among the Theatre Program faculty by the Executive
Officer, and shall serve a three-year term concurrent with that of the
Executive Officer. The Deputy Executive Officer shall replace the Executive
Officer in his/her absence and shall undertake such other duties as the
Executive Officer shall assign.
Standing
Committees
All Standing Committees report to the Executive Committee. The
Executive Officer and the Deputy Executive Officer shall be ex officio
members of all Standing Committees. The Chairs of the Standing Committees
will be selected by the Executive Officer from those elected to those
committees, and the student members of those committees will be elected by
the Doctoral Theatre Students’ Association. Faculty members of the Standing
Committees serve for two-year terms and may be re-elected. The Standing
Committees of the Program will be the following:
(a) Curriculum and Examination
The Curriculum and Examination Committee shall review
curriculum and make recommendations for consideration by the Executive
Committee. It shall recommend to the Executive Committee procedures and
standards for the administration of examinations. It will be composed of
three at-large faculty members elected by the Program faculty and one
student elected by the Doctoral Theatre Students Association. At least
two members of the committee must be from the college faculty.
(b) Faculty Membership
The Curriculum and Examination Committee as a whole
shall serve as the Faculty Membership Committee. It shall recommend to
the Executive Committee for membership on the Doctoral Faculty those
faculty members who will make a significant contribution relevant to the
needs of the Program. The student member will have voice but not vote on
any matters affecting individuals being considered for membership.
(c) Admissions and Awards
The Admissions and Awards Committee shall review
applications and make decisions as to which applicants are admitted to
the Program. The committee shall recommend newly admitted students for
awards administered by the Graduate Center. It shall be composed of
three at-large faculty members elected by the Program faculty and one
student. At least two members of the committee must be from the college
faculty.
(d) Elections
The Elections Committee shall conduct all Program
elections. The committee shall be composed of the Executive Officer,
three faculty members, and three students. The Executive Officer will
propose a slate of three faculty nominees to the Executive Committee,
which will elect the faculty members of the Elections Committee. The
student members of the committee will be elected by the Doctoral Theatre
Students’ Association. All terms shall be two years.
Meetings
The Executive Committee shall meet at least once each semester. In
addition, the Executive Committee shall meet with the students in the
Program once each semester, and the doctoral faculty of the Program shall
meet once each semester.
