Greta Hawkins

Research Interests: the widening education achievement gap between Whites and Blacks, and the attitudinal differences of Blacks, primarily African American males with labeled disabilities, and Whites toward education largely account for the ineffectiveness of solutions already implemented. I want to investigate how the attitudes of both groups have an impact on one another, essentially pushing members of one group to greater attainment of education and members of the other to educational ruination.

Well my first inclination was to study teacher certification changes vs. curricula changes - for instance, science teachers must be certified in a specific content area now (Chemistry for instance) but the trend in the middle schools is to spiral science (all content on each grade level) - what are the implications when these two policies are implemented in tandem?
