Individual Counseling
Types of issues addressed: The staff is here to assist students with a wide range of personal and academic problems. Some examples of common issues students come in with are:
- Anxiety/stress
- Depression
- Relationship issues with family, friends, or romantic partners
- Dissertation completion
- Identity development
- Sexuality issues
- Drug or alcohol use
- Eating issues
- Parenting issues
- Procrastination
- Trauma
- Bereavement
Consultation: Students meet with a staff member on an individual basis for an initial appointment to determine the nature of their concern and the best avenue for addressing it.
Counseling and psychotherapy: Students meet with a staff member for short-term counseling or psychotherapy . The length of treatment will be discussed at the outset with the staff member. It is determined based on several factors, including student need, semester length and staff availability, and ranges from 8 to 16 sessions.
Referrals: When students’ needs would be more appropriately served through longer-term psychotherapy or other modes of treatment, we provide referrals to high quality resources throughout New York City
