Essie Duggan's childhood dreams of becoming
a missionary have been realized through her success as a religious educator
at the Wayside Baptist Church and elected official. In 1994, Duggan became
the "Elected Female District Leader" for the New York State Committee 55th
A.D. Over the past twenty years, Duggan's leadership roles in economic
rehabilitation and church activism maintain the importance of her philosophies
of community spiritual development, playing a major role in the cultural
renaissance of central Brooklyn.
