Activist Women's Voices: Oral History Project
Linking Communities and the University

Barbara Dobkin is the founder of Ma'yan, The Jewish Women's Project at the Jewish Community Center of the Upper West Side in New York City. As a visionary of a new, more tolerant community, she has worked for change through organizing and fundraising for women's and Jewish causes, serving on many boards of directors, awarding grants through the Dobkin Family Foundation, and creating Ma'yan.

The interviews provide examples of how Jewish culture can frame expectations and accomplishments. The interviews also include discussions of body image, power dynamics, philanthropy, feminism, family, sexuality, and community organizing.
