Activist Women's Voices: Oral History Project
Linking Communities and the University

Deborah Edel, along with Joan Nestle, founded the Lesbian Herstory Archives in 1973. They began with a newsletter and a consciousness-raising group that came out of a Gay Academic Union Conference. The Archive was created Edel says, "to collect and preserve our own voices, the voices of the Lesbian community": all expressions our identity, written, spoken, drawn, filmed, photographed and recorded (interview is part of an organization profile).
