Activist Women's Voices: Oral History Project
Linking Communities and the University

Norma Stanton was born in 1930 in the city of Rafaela, Santa Fe, Argentina. After receiving a Ph.D. in International Relations, Stanton left Argentina in 1964 and went to Puerto Rico to conduct post-graduate studies in Caribbean Studies.

While working with the youth advocacy group ASPIRA, Stanton focused on women as an under-served population and as agents of social change. Under her leadership, HACER developed computer and language skills programs and career placement to promote the means to foster individual and community empowerment.
